Finding ways to honor our troops is something we need to try to do every day, but Memorial Day is especially poignant since that day has been set aside specifically for us to do so. It doesn't matter if the person or people being honored died in battle or not, if they served in our armed forces, they deserve our respect and showing a token of our respect with a bouquet of Memorial Day flowers is the least we can do.
Our men and women take on a heavy responsibility and carry it out well. While everyone may not appreciate the reasons we go to war, you have to respect the troops who go over to whatever conflict we're in and do the jobs they're ordered to do. Placing flowers on the graves of anyone who served in any war, from the Revolutionary War all the way through to the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, is our way of paying back just a bit of the debt we owe them for fighting for our freedom and our right to live the way we choose.
Giving a beautiful basket or bouquet of Memorial Day flowers to the men and women who currently serve shows them that we appreciate them and is a way we can also honor them. While the ultimate goal is to have peace around the world, until that time comes, we'll always need these men and women to protect our shores and our way of life. Giving them flowers on Memorial Day not only shows our respect for their efforts, but lets them know that what they're doing is vitally important. A reminder to them about why they do what they do will also be a big morale booster.
Having family who is serving or who has served brings home the point quickly, but friends or even strangers can't help but be moved by the sacrifices these people make and have made for our country. Leaving a bouquet of flowers on Memorial Day at the base of the Viet Nam War Memorial is but one way we can show our appreciation for their sacrifices. If you have friends or family who has served, or knows someone that has family or loved ones overseas, giving them a bouquet of patriotic flowers lets them know you appreciate their sacrifice as well.
